Capcom’s Dino Crisis is now available for PS5, but the classic title is locked behind a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription. Fans have asked for the Dino Crisis series to make a comeback for years, but the community is understandably disappointed by this odd decision. Created by Shinji Mikami, the mastermind behind the Resident Evil series, Dino Crisis was first released for the PlayStation in 1999. The survival horror game spawned three sequels, the most recent of which was released for the Xbox in 2003. Over two decades later, the series has retained a dedicated fanbase, with Capcom admitting that Dino Crisis is one of its most requested games. While a new title in the franchise doesn’t seem to be in the works, players were thrilled to hear that the original game would be making its way to the PlayStation 5. Unfortunately, its release isn’t what many players expected. Related Jurassic Park Survival Could Fill the Void Left By Dino Crisis Jurassic Park Survival’s recent announcement could see the upcoming game filling the space left by Dino Crisis’ longtime absence. On October 15, Dino Crisis made its debut on PS4 and PS5, but unfortunately, the title is only available to those with a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription. This is the service’s highest tier, costing $119.99 a year. No separate purchase is available, and while many believe Dino Crisis will eventually be released on its own, many fans are venting their frustration on social media in the meantime, begging Capcom to “sell their dang games.” Adding insult to injury, the game was also released with no trophy support. Dino Crisis is Locked Behind a PlayStation Plus Premium Subscription on PS4 and PS5 Close In an August interview, Mikami shared that Monster Hunter was preventing a Dino Crisis revival. According to the Dino Crisis creator, the massive global success of Monster Hunter World in 2018 and Monster Hunter Rise in 2021 served to corner the market when it comes to dinosaur-like creatures in games. Fans disagree, however, as the gameplay found in Dino Crisis is entirely different and more in line with a classic survival horror romp. The title’s dedicated fanbase continues to hold out hope for a reboot or remake, though many would be happy to have the opportunity to buy Dino Crisis on PS4 or PS5 outright for a start.Alongside Dino Crisis, the October 2024 PlayStation Plus Premium lineup of new games includes Siren, R-Type Dimensions EX, and The Last Clockwinder on PS VR2. The excitement surrounding the addition of the 2003 PS2 horror title Siren proves that the survival horror genre is far from dead, with fans clamoring for more unique games in the genre. If the demand for more Dino Crisis continues to amplify, Capcom may have no choice but to listen.
