Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is Getting Its Own Xbox Controller

Xbox has unveiled a new set of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6-themed console accessories that include two customizable Design Labs controllers and a new Xbox Series X console wrap. The sixth entry in the popular FPS subseries, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 takes place in the early 90s and brings several key changes to the Call of Duty multiplayer experience, namely Omnimovement, which will allow players to sprint, slide, and dive in any direction. Black Ops 6 is also bringing back round-based Zombies, and will be home to two Zombies maps at launch. It’s fair to say Xbox’s console and controller customization options have taken a step forward in the Series X and S generation. Xbox carried forward its hugely popular Design Labs program from the tail end of the Xbox One generation that lets players design their own controllers, and now allows fans to build their own Elite Series 2 controllers. Xbox has used Design Labs to release a number of designs that are inspired by particular games, and recently even used the program to release a special edition Fallout controller. Last year, Xbox also introduced Xbox Series X console wraps, soft rubber panels that effortlessly wrap around gamers’ Series X consoles to give them a fresh new look without having to put a whole new console design to market. So far, Xbox has only released three console wrap designs, one of them being Starfield-themed. The Xbox Series X console wrap shares a similar design and features what appear to be redacted documents pertaining to Russell Adler, one of Black Ops’ newer main characters. The standard and Elite Series 2 controllers will run players $85 and $165 respectively, while the cheapest of the bunch is the console wrap, which costs $55. Many feel Xbox missed a big opportunity to do one for arguably its biggest first-party release of the year in Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2. It would be nice to see Xbox make one for MachineGames’ Indiana Jones and the Great Circle in December and Obsidian’s Avowed in February. Even if these games aren’t as big as Starfield or Call of Duty, more stylish accessory options for Xbox fans’ consoles can never hurt.Call of Duty fans only have one more week to wait for Black Ops 6, which is set for release on October 25. Meanwhile, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 players will still have more time with Season 6, which is due to end in early November.
