Dragon’s Dogma 2 Gets Important New Update

Dragon’s Dogma 2 has received a new patch for all platforms, finally adding the option to prioritize graphics or performance. After Dragon’s Dogma 2 release, players complained about FPS drops, mainly on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and this new patch aims to improve the RPG’s performance for those who prefer a higher frame rate.Dragon’s Dogma 2 came out in March this year, and while it was a commercial and critical success, it wasn’t free from controversy. Microtransactions, frame rate issues, features that wiped out NPCs from entire cities, and other topics were often discussed among players. Capcom didn’t rest on its laurels and continued releasing new updates, constantly improving or fixing the game’s experience, such as the recently added Casual Mode in Dragon’s Dogma 2 that eases the burden of long travel distances. Related Dragon's Dogma 2's Casual Mode Explained Dragon’s Dogma 2’s new Casual Mode was specially designed for new and casual players who might need a break from the game’s demanding mechanics.1 While earlier updates improved performance on PC, the October patch for Dragon’s Dogma 2 includes PS5 and Xbox Series X/S players in the equation. The current update, already available on all platforms, adds the options “Prioritize Graphics” and “Prioritize Performance,” delivering the long-awaited mode that brings higher frames per second to the game. Capcom had long promised to release updates to improve the frame rate of Dragon’s Dogma 2 on consoles, and after many patches, this one has finally arrived. Along with the update, Capcom released a chart detailing the resolutions and frame rates each mode targets on different platforms. Dragon’s Dogma 2 on PS5 and Xbox Series X performs identically, offering a rendering of 1728p in performance mode, with a frame rate ranging from 50 to 60 FPS. In graphics mode, the resolution is 2160p, or 4K, with a frame rate of 30 to 40. The RPG’s performance on Steam varies based on the player’s hardware and settings, but natively, PCs typically run Dragon’s Dogma 2 at higher frame rates than consoles. Close What’s most interesting is that the Xbox Series S outputs a 4K resolution, but its rendering is 1440p in both modes. On Microsoft’s budget console, the FPS hovers around 35 to 40 in performance mode and 30 to 35 FPS in graphics mode. Still, this long-desired update has arrived. Not that its absence has affected Dragon’s Dogma 2’s sales numbers, which are stronger than ever, but seeing that Capcom still cares about improving the game months after its release is refreshing. These updates may well be preparation for the upcoming Dragon’s Dogma 2 DLC. Although Capcom hasn’t officially announced it, the company has conducted several surveys in the past asking players if they would be interested in an expansion. The first Dragon’s Dogma received the Dark Arisen DLC a year after its release. If the second game follows the same path, players may see a DLC for Dragon’s Dogma 2 in 2025’s first quarter.
